Service hierarchy

Using companies, object groups and containers, an Integrator builds the structure of the service: which users see which objects and what they can do with them. A well-designed hierarchy lets people work quickly and avoid mistakes in managing objects. The general access rules are described in Roles and access rights; this page covers the setup order in practice.

Who manages the hierarchy​

Users can be roughly divided into two kinds:

  • service administrators — the Integrator and Administrator roles. They create companies, users, containers and objects, and move objects between companies. They see everything in their company and its child companies;
  • clients — the User, Demonstration and Observation roles. They work with monitored objects and see only what they were given access to through object groups and containers.

An Integrator manages only their own company and its child companies. Parent and sibling companies are not visible to them.

Setting up a new client​

  1. Create the client's company in Companies and set Parent company to your company (or one of its children). A container with the same name is created automatically together with the company.
  2. Move the client's objects into their company: in the company dialog, on the Objects tab, select the objects and click Move.
  3. Create object groups in the Control Panel section "Object groups" and add the client's objects to them — for example, separate groups for different divisions or vehicle types.
  4. Create the client's users in Users: choose the company and the role.
  5. Give access to objects: on the Access rights tab of the user dialog, add the required object groups and tick the rights.
  6. Give access to directories: on the Containers tab, add the company's container and tick the rights for geozones, drivers, keys, etc.
  7. If needed, narrow the set of sections on the Interface tab.
tip

If one of the client's users should give access to colleagues on their own, grant them Manage members in the object group. They still cannot create new users — that requires the Integrator role.

Moving objects between companies​

An object belongs to one company. An Integrator or Administrator can move it to another company in the company edit dialog, on the Objects tab: the selected company's objects are on the left, the target company is on the right.

Moving an object changes only the company it belongs to. For client users to see the object, it must belong to an object group they have access to.
