Searching in lists
Every list in the system — objects, geozones, drivers, keys, groups, users, companies and so on — has a search box that follows the same rules. The list is filtered as you type, and letter case does not matter: "kamaz", "KAMAZ" and "Kamaz" give the same result.
Simple search
Plain text keeps the records whose name contains that text anywhere. For example, "az" finds both "Kamaz 123" and "Gazelle".
Several values separated by commas ("OR")
To search for several variants at once, separate them with commas. The list keeps the records that match at least one of the values:
Kamaz, Gazelle— all Kamaz and all Gazelle vehicles;123, 456, 789— records whose name contains 123, 456 or 789.
Spaces around the comma do not matter. Only the comma is a separator: a semicolon, a vertical bar and a space
are ordinary characters. So Kamaz Gazelle looks for the text "Kamaz Gazelle", not for two values.
Exclusion ("!")
An exclamation mark at the start of a value means "except": matching records are removed from the list.
!test— all records except those containing "test";Kamaz, !test— Kamaz vehicles, but without those whose name contains "test";!test, !reserve— everything except test and reserve records.
Exclusions are checked first: a record that matches an exclusion is not shown, even if it also matches another value.
If the search covers several fields of a record at once (for example, the name, code and description of a key), the record is excluded when the exclusion matches any of these fields.
Mask ("*" and "?")
*— any number of any characters (including none);?— exactly one character.
As soon as a value contains *, it is compared with the whole name, not searched for as a fragment. So the
position of the asterisk defines where the text must be:
Kamaz*— names that start with "Kamaz";*123— names that end with "123";A*7— names that start with "A" and end with "7";*az*— "az" anywhere (the same as a simple search foraz).
Without an asterisk, ? works inside an ordinary fragment search: A?12 finds "AB12", "AC12" and so on
anywhere in the name.
The % character has no special meaning and is searched for as is.
Combining the rules
All the rules can be combined in one line:
Kamaz*, Gazelle*, !*test*— everything that starts with "Kamaz" or "Gazelle", except records containing "test".
Where these rules apply
The rules are the same for name search boxes in the lists of the "Tracking", "Tracks", "Diagnostics" and "Drivers" → "Rating" sections, in the Control panel and in the mobile version. If a search box lets you choose the search type (for example "By IMEI/ID" or "By phone number" in the object list), the rules apply to the selected field.
These rules do not apply:
- to the search box inside drop-down lists (choosing a company, container, device type, etc.) — it looks for the entered text as a fragment;
- to table column filters (the funnel icon in a column header) — the comparison mode ("Contains", "Starts with", etc.) is chosen in the filter itself;
- to the Search box of the Action journal — the search runs on the server and looks for the entered text as a fragment of the name.
